You won’t get work if you don’t pitch — but even the best pitch can fall flat without the right follow-up.
Back by popular demand, Robyn Roste returns with one of her most sought-after workshops, diving deep into how to pitch effectively — and just as importantly, how to follow up with confidence (and tact).
Robyn will kick things off with a focused presentation on strategies that get results, then open the floor for group workshopping and real-world Q&A. Bring your burning questions — from “I can’t seem to get a hold of this editor, they never answer!” to “How many times is too many when it comes to following up?” — and get practical, actionable advice you can use right away.
⚠️ Note: This session may not be recorded, so make sure to join us live!
Best regards,
The CFG Events Team
NOTE: REGISTRATION CLOSES AT 12 PM ET ON THE DAY OF THE EVENT

Fifteen years, hundreds of stories, and countless conversations later — The Story Board is still at the heart of Canada’s freelance community. Join us for a very special Freelance Friday as we celebrate The Storyboard’s 15th anniversary!
We’re inviting the publication’s original editors, founders, and long-time contributors (here's looking at you ) to look back on how it all began, the moments that defined it, and the freelancers who helped it grow. Plus, we’ll be unveiling The Story Board’s brand-new website — a fresh home for the next chapter of stories, resources, and voices that keep our community thriving.
Whether you’ve been reading since day one or you’re just discovering The Story Board, come raise a virtual glass with us for a relaxed, nostalgic, and heartwarming look at 15 years of freelance storytelling.
Three years ago, OpenAI launched it's first public version of ChatGPT. A linguistic savant that hallucinates, makes up 'facts', has no sense of humour or moral code, but has gutted the job market for human interns and entry level positions involving writing, editing, and coding.
It's also become frighteningly efficient at generating images and videos and sound, including replicating human voices.
It's been a tumultuous three years, with some individuals and organizations embracing these new AI technologies while others are taking the opposite tack and rejecting them outright.
Is AI a friend or a foe?

This week, Freelance Friday’s going literary! ✨
We’re hosting a virtual book fair, and we’re inviting any CFG authors who’d like to showcase their work to book a 15-minute slot in one of our breakout rooms. It’s a great chance to share your stories, talk about your writing process, or just let fellow members know what you’ve been creating.
Not an author? You’re just as welcome! Drop by to listen in, chat with others in the main room, and enjoy our usual mix of freelancing talk, creative tangents, and friendly conversation.
Grab your favourite drink, bring your curiosity (and maybe your pets), and join us for a Freelance Friday full of inspiration and community.
As the year winds down, so does your chance to get your freelance finances in order — and we’re here to make that a whole lot easier.
In this CFG Experts Panel, we’ll walk through the essentials of year-end prep for freelancers: organizing expenses, understanding deductions, setting aside for taxes, and making sure your records are ready for whatever the CRA throws your way. Our panelists — experienced freelancers and financial pros — will share how they manage it all without losing their minds (or their receipts).
Whether you’re prepping for your first freelance tax season or you’ve been at it for years, this session will leave you feeling organized, informed, and maybe even a little smug about being ahead of the game.
Friday, December 12th, 2025, 4pm ET
It’s our final Freelance Friday of the year — time to close the laptop, grab something festive to sip, and celebrate making it through another whirl of deadlines, clients, and creative chaos
Join your fellow freelancers for a relaxed hour of conversation, laughter, and a little holiday spirit (ugly sweaters and pet cameos strongly encouraged). Whether you’re reflecting on the year that was or already plotting next year’s big moves, come hang out, unwind, and wrap up 2025 the CFG way — together.

Social media never sits still — and neither do the freelancers who depend on it. As algorithms shift, platforms rise (and fall), and audiences change how they engage, staying ahead of the curve can feel like a full-time job.
Join our panel of CFG experts — all working professionals who live and breathe this stuff — as they share insights on where social media is headed in 2026. We’ll explore what’s working now, what’s fading fast, and what new trends might reshape how freelancers market themselves, connect with clients, and build communities online.
Whether you manage client accounts or just want to keep your own socials sharp, this session will leave you inspired, informed, and ready to scroll into the new year with confidence.
Freelancers wear a lot of hats — but “financial planner” doesn’t have to be the most intimidating one. Whether you’re just starting out or already juggling multiple income streams, it’s never too early (or too late) to build a smart, sustainable financial future.
Join our CFG experts as they dive into the freelancer’s guide to money management: investing, retirement planning, and long-term wealth building tailored for independent professionals. We’ll talk practical strategies, tools, and habits that help you take control of your finances — no jargon, no judgment.
If you’ve ever wondered how to make your money work for you (even when your income isn’t always predictable), this panel is the perfect place to start.
Great clients don’t just appear out of thin air — but with the right content, they can find you. From blogs and newsletters to social posts and portfolios, inbound marketing helps freelancers build trust, show expertise, and draw in the kinds of clients who truly value what you do.
In this CFG Experts Panel, we’ll talk about what works (and what doesn’t) when creating content that converts. Our panelists will share how they’ve built visibility, credibility, and steady leads through authentic, strategic storytelling — and how you can do the same.
Whether you’re tired of chasing work or just looking to sharpen your self-marketing game, this session will help you turn your content into a client magnet.
For many freelancers, the CBC isn’t just another client — it’s a milestone. And for CFG, it’s personal: our roots run deep with the CBC, where many of our founding members built their freelance careers.
In this special edition of the CFG Experts Panel, we’ll explore what it’s like to freelance for the CBC today — from pitching and editorial processes to building lasting relationships with producers and editors. Hear from freelancers who’ve worked across CBC’s platforms and learn how to navigate opportunities, expectations, and best practices for success.
Whether you’re a journalist, producer, or content creator looking to connect with Canada’s public broadcaster, this session is your inside look at how to make it happen — from the people who know it best.
All CFG members in good standing are invited to attend the Spring 2026 Board of Directors meeting on Monday, April 6, 2026, at 7 pm ET.
